  • Tumkur District gets its first Child Adoption Centre

A new child adoption centre was started by the St. Gregorios Dayabhavan under the sponsorship of the Child Protection Cell in Tumkur on November 9, 2018. This centre has been authorized by the Dept of Women and Child Development, Government of Karnataka to commence both in-Country and inter-Country adoptions of children—care and protection of just-born/infants, orphaned and abandoned—as the first adoption center in Tumkur District. The organization will serve as the partner NGO for the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) under the Integrated Child Protection Society.

This is a maiden venture among the services of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

Participating in the inaugural function of the centre in St. Gregorios Dayabhavan in Kunigal Taluk were HG Dr. Abraham Mar Seraphim (Vice-President, St. Gregorios Dayabhavan and Metropolitan of the Bangalore Diocese), Dr. Veerabhadraiah (District Surgeon, District Hospital, Tumkur),  Sri Nataraju (Deputy Director, Dept of Women and Child Welfare Development, Tumkur), Smt. Vasanthi Uppar (District Child Protection Officer, Tumkur), Smt. Muniyamma (President, Grama Panchayat, Bhaktharahalli), Mr. PG Chacko (Hon. Justice Retd.), Dr. Sajan George (President International, Mother Teresa Children’s Foundation),  and Rev. Fr. Jinesh K. Varkey (Secretary, St. Gregorios Dayabhavan). Those wishing to adopt children should visit the national site of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) and register online.
